[FIX] Internet Explorer 7 Bug Will Not Display Menu Bar
Ran into a very interesting Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 bug today, could not display the menu bar even though we clicked the menu bar option in the tools menu. After clicking menu bar it put a check next to it in the tool menu meaning that it should have been displayed but it was not.
After searching high and low the fix ended up being very simple. Simply click tools – toolbars – links which will bring up the links bar. After that the check mark that was next to menu bar in the tools menu should be gone. Now just click Tools – Menu Bar and your menu bar should be back, feel free to remove links bar as it is not necessary to keep it on.
This is the first time we have run into this but I would bet that Microsoft will issue a patch for the bug eventually.

Thanks very much for that! I had a customer with the same problem; very strange.

My menu bar is black and I cannot see anything. I went to the tools window like you suggested, but IE states menu bar not found. Is this one of the problems you have been having as well or have you even heard of it?

I had trouble with black menu and favorites on IE8.
I think I got mine fixed.
01. Set IE8 tools: Enable visual styles on buttons and controls on webpages.
02. Control Panel/System/Advanced/Performance/Settings/Custom
03. Use visual styles on Windows and Buttons.
04. Smooth edges to screen fonts (optional for better looks)
I reset my computer many times to see what would happen on IE8.
I am happy right now. I will keep using.

The last reply before mine fixed my issue. Menu bar on IE7 was completely black, and did not display anything. As soon as I “applied” “use visual styles on windows and buttons” it resolved issue.
