[FIX] Internet Explorer 7 (IE7) Prints HTML Code not Text & Images

Internet Explorer 2

So today we had a customer bring in a laptop running Windows XP that would not print websites correctly using Internet Explorer 7.  Instead of printing the text and images it would print the HTML code that created the webpage.  After digging around in several forums I was able to put together the following solution.

  1. Click start
  2. Click Set Program Access and Defaults
  3. Most likely Custom is selected, click the down arrows off to the right to expand the field.  Even if custom is not selected do the same for the field that is selected.
  4. Under choose a default web browser, select Internet Explorer
  5. Then hit Ok

Thats it, now go and try print another website as it should be working fine now.

Let me know in the comments if this works for you.

  1. thanks, fixed my problem, no more code!

  2. Works like a CHARM!

  3. Thanks! Fixed it never would have guessed that one!

  4. PERFECT worked on IE8

  5. It fixed my problem, but why? I did not change that setting. My other computers are set to “Use my current web browser”. So how could that solve my problem. We did remove google chrome yesterday that was installed without my permission from another software download. (I hate that crap) So chrome changed something before we removed it?

  6. CHROME rocks! It is faster than IE, doesn’t have all kinds of toolbars in the way, and just works. I have found very few sites that still are archaic enough to require IE – and if they do, then the web developers need to wake up – HTML is supposed to be cross platform.

  7. Yeah..worked..thank you soooo much!

  8. YOU ARE THE MAN!!!!!!!!!!!!

  9. Hey thanks dude, I’ve been trying to fix this problem for hours!

  10. I uninstalled Chrome and Firefox (needed the space) and after that I had the described problem. Your solution worked. Thanx a lot!

  11. This even works in hell where IE is a mandated browser.
